Advent Calendars!

I am so excited for December 1st to start! I have a beautiful advent calendar for the kids that my sis made us last year. It is adorable...and this year I am adding the Christmas book a day to our tradition. Over the past couple months, I have been buying some books from Scholastic that the kids bring home every few weeks to accumulate 24 books. I am wrapping each book and putting them in a basket. Each evening, the kids will unwrap 1 book that will be read to them that night and the countdown for Christmas will begin!

This year we are slimming down on gifts that we get the kids. It is very important for them to realize that the celebration of gifts is not the entire reason for the season or why we celebrate Christmas. Now that they are a little older I think they can grasp it all much better. We are overloaded with toys that the kids never play with, get broken or are neglected and in light of the killing of the Walmart employee in NY, it is just so so sad to me that we are a people who puts more value in big screen tvs, fancy cars and expensive toys (I have been thinking about this man and his family ever since it happened) than spending time together and reading, baking or just being. These are the things that we are going to focus on in December. Baking with the kids, fun dinners, reading, decorating our tree, drinking hot chocolate and playing games! Don't get me wrong, I love the present part too, but when is enough really enough? I think this year! ;)

Daily December: I am also doing an album on December to document the month leading up to Christmas, starting on the 1st I am going to take a picture of us doing what we do. I already have the album created and can't wait to take the pictures, get them printed and assemble this album for us to look back on over the year and next year! It is a great idea, you should try it. More info here!
